The results are beautiful and the portability with self-contained storage case offers the ultimate in convenience. The Flexio 890 is a great go-to device for repainting your house, painting a fence, staining your deck, refinishing furniture and more. Let’s take a look at the features.
Able to handle up to 8.4 gallons of paint per hour, the Flexio 890 can theoretically paint an 8×10′ wall surface in just 5 minutes. There’s a little bit of a learning curve involved if you’ve never used a sprayer before but overall it’s very easy to use and you don’t have to be a technical person to use it. Just pay attention to your paint flow as this thing can quickly go through your buckets of paint pretty quickly.
Wagner SprayTech Corp has provided the Flexio 890 Paint Sprayer as a courtesy so that we could provide review coverage of the hardware for our readers.
We suggest trying a test run or two on smaller areas before you plunge into painting the item you are tryin to paint. The more practice you get with it the better the results you’ll achieve. If you want the convenience of speed with professional finishes, take the time to become more familiar with what the output looks like with different settings and different paint material.
The unit measures 14″ H x 16.65″ W x 13.58″ D and weighs about 14lbs. When it’s all packed in it’s box the Flexio 890 stores wonderfully in the garage or basement without taking up too much space. Picture 2x 24 pack cases of Poland spring water stacked. Do not try and use the storage box as a seat or a stepping stool as it is not designed for the weight.
The Flexio 890 is engineered to minimize overspray as well as clogging but it’s paint,; as it drys it is possible to get some clogging or drips. It’s important to do a little preventative maintenance as you go by simply wiping off the nozzle to free up and bunched up paint.
Convenience & Use
The Flexio 890 Sprayer unit is self-contained and is packed nicely into its own carry/storage box. All you need to do is supply the paint and the power. Inside the Flexio 890 you find the iSpray and Detail Finish nozzles along with an ample 11.5 ft air hose so you can in most all cases leave the unit on the floor and comfortably reach any area. It’s not like most self-contained tools that don’t seem like much thought was put into how it stores. The hose, power cord and two spray nozzles have their own space so you never spend time trying to fit the parts back inside when you are done. The one inconvenience you might face packing the unit back in for storage is the hose. Being 11.5 ft long, the ribbed hose will take a little practice getting inside so the box closes properly.
The iSpray is the larger spray head that is used for larger areas and using unthinned paint with a 1.5 qt capacity. It will give you faster overall coverage of a surface but will also produce a more coarse result. The Detail Finish Nozzle is smaller holding 20 fl. oz. of paint that you can thin a little if and when the job calls for it. For thicker paint materials it may warrant some thinning of the medium. Thin your paint a little at a time until you achieve the ideal thickness for the sprayer head.
We do not recommend the Flexio 890 for indoor painting where space is really tight when used with the broader iSpray nozzle. Unless you are using paint materials that have no fumes wear a painting mask.
You just want to make sure that the area you are in has enough room to ventilate and provide sweeping, consistent passes so you don’t get drips. Even without any technical knowledge or experience many will be able to use the Flexio 890 without much issue. It’s super easy to assemble and with just some basic paint spraying tips, you’ll see professional results in no time if not immediately.
The Flexio 890 is engineered to produce less overspray, for which it does very well but, we would still recommend that you use a painting mask. The smaller Detail Spray Nozzle is better suited to use indoors for a smooth finish, just don’t over thin the paint or you may find inconsistent coverage.
The 11.5 ft hose needs to be placed in its resting place in the lid of the case just right, otherwise you run into an issue closing the box. The best advice we can give is pay attention to how it was packed originally before you remove it. We wrestled with the hose a bit before we could get it to seat back properly. Once you find the method to the madness, the cord stows away relatively easily each time after use.
Wagner’s website has a few informative and easy to follow videos that are helpful for the best practices on how to use the sprayer properly to achieve smooth beautiful finishes. We highly recommend watching them for great tips.

A max pressure of 3 PSI is produced by the X-boost power box that resides inside of the storage/carry case. An adjustable trigger on each of the spray nozzles allows you to change the Spray Pattern horizontal/vertical as well as the Spray Width. The spray pattern can be adjusted by turning the Adjustment ring that resides at the nozzle spray point.
The pattern alignment will depend on the task that will dictate which way is best to spray. The spray pattern is oblong and can also be adjusted to be circular for getting into pesky corners and imperfections. Wagner includes a quick reference chart below for your choice of nozzle, weight of material and suggested air flow to use with each medium. There are a total of 15 spray settings to choose from with varying degrees of intensity and spray shape.
The iSpray and Detail Finish sprayer heads are designed with a quick release twist and lock connection points for easy swapping out of sprayer heads and to detach when cleaning after your job is done. On the top of the grip where the sprayers attach is a the X-Boost adjustment dial that controls the X-Boost Turbine’s air pressure power level.
On the back of the trigger portion of each sprayer head is a dial that you can adjust to increase or decrease the amount of trigger travel so you can further fine tune the spray which will help minimize overspray as well.
With all the convenience and speed you get out of the Flexio 890 HVLP Paint Sprayer you’ll want to take your time cleaning the unit after you’re done with your projects. A clean sprayer is a happy sprayer. Leaving residue in the line, canister or spray head will only result in less than ideal performance the next time you break it out. The Spray head detaches apart so you can easily soak or rinse the parts for impeccable cleaning.
Most of us will not be using the sprayer full time all the time so it’s even more important to clean the station properly. It’s easy enough to do and takes about 30 min or so to clean using soap and hot water for oil based paints and cut that time in half for water based paints. As we mentioned earlier it’s important to wipe the nozzle area if you notice paint is beginning to build up or your spray pattern isn’t so smooth.
As a home owner you’ll discover it’s not always feasible to have a professional contractor come in and do all your repairs for you. Certain tools are essential for DIY Home Improvement projects around the home like a Mitor Saw or a Cordless power drill. The Flexio 890 Paint Sprayer is a wonderful DIY home improvement tool to have around and comes in handy more than once.
