Seiko Astron Titanium GPS Solar Watch
We haven’t forgotten about Seiko and they’ve made sure of that with the Astron GPS Solar Watch. With a touch of a button the Astron can automatically recognize and can adjust to all 40 time zones on Earth.
The Astron will sync once a day and is able to maintain accuracy of time regardless of your geographic location; on the top of Mount Everest or out in the middle of the ocean. The Astron is Solar powered and runs off of available light that is absorbed through the dial-face and converted into power. Though the Astron is able to gain power from any light source, the Atomic Clock synchronization, like any Atomic Clock relies on line-of-sight to the sky.
It’s able to utilize Solar energy or any kind of light to run and is able to store up to two months of power in it’s reserve once fully charged, a whopping 6 months in sleep mode. You are also able to toggle the GPS radio off, useful if you’re setting your time zone for your destination location before you board your flight.
The synchronization of time is dependent upon exposure to light, so when it’s covered by your shirt sleeve or jacket the Astron will continue off of the last known Atomic Time until it’s able make a connection. A ring shaped antenna just under the dial ring makes it easy for the Astron to receive signals regardless of posture. The Astron requires just 6 seconds of exposure to sun or light to run for an entire day, a full charge takes up to 65 hours of sunlight. A visual indicator located at the 10 o’clock position displays the power reserve in your gas tank from E – F.
Seiko Astron is accurate to one second every 100,000 years, thanks to the time signal it receives from the Atomic Clocks in each GPS satellite.
