Just because it’s fashion, doesn’t mean it can’t ALSO perform well. Too often we’ve heard good ol’ Billy Crystal saying “it’s better to look good than feel good” ringing in our heads. The North & Mark Bordin StormLux offers luxury design and materials in this Wool Cashmere blend overcoat that keep you not only looking great, but also perform well in adverse weather conditions.
The Bordin StormLux Overcoat Wool/Cashmere blend comes with North & Marks’ weatherproofing that makes it fully Windproof and Waterproof.
The interior lining has that trendy quilted design that holds the Primaloft Gold insulation layer. Primaloft categorizes their level of protection by color codes. Each color denotes a fill size and warmth rating. Primaloft’s insulation levels from the top down: Gold, Silver & Black. Primaloft’s Gold insulation features their highest performing synthetic insulation and an optimal warmth to weight ratio.
First Impressions
You won’t be buying the Bordin StormLux for its packaging but when you receive the coat it’s hard to miss the attention that North & Mark have put into its product. Comes in a clean black branded box and thoughtfully comes inside its’ own garment bag which just gives you that warm fuzzy feeling.
The Bordin StormLux features a 90/10% cashmere blend that feels soft and luxurious. It feels durable without being abrasive. We find the cashmere blend is able to hold its shape a bit better than a 100% cashmere overcoat which is super soft but can tend to flop over.
Is it warm?
You better believe it is. We were incredibly impressed with the level of warmth and protection the Bordin StormLux provides in direct wind. The Bordin StormLux does a great job at shielding you from the wind and wet which can lead you to hypothermia.
Just a normal pullover sweater and the Bordin kept us warm in sub freezing temps. On colder days, (we’ve already gotten a nice taste), a heavier midlayer like a cashmere sweater seemed to easily pick up the extra cold conditions. We are very pleased with the performance of the Bordin StormLux.
a Tailored Fit
The fit is tailored so you don’t look like David Byrne from Talking Heads in the Once in a Lifetime video. The design looks and feels wonderful. The cut is flattering and runs mid-thigh length 3/4 style. Don’t have traps (trapezius muscles) not to worry, the design is quite flattering, upscale and masculine.
Often times you see something on the hanger that you love but when you put it on, it just doesn’t work for you. Refreshingly the Bordin StormLux is one of those coats that looks better on You than it does on the rack.
If you are looking to wear it with a pullover sweater or cardigan the Bordin runs true to size. If you are looking to wear the Bordin over a blazer, you’ll want to size up.
The Bordin StormLux is fully waterproof coat so you can worry less about getting your overcoat wet and more time feeling good about it.
Functional
The collar is made to be worn up and the coat holds its shape well as we mentioned. Rubber coated buttons make buttoning up the coat solid and secure.
The Bordin features 2 large deep hand pockets sans flap and just above it a waterproof zippered side pocket on each side along with a breast pocket on the exterior.
There are matching deep interior pockets that secure with a button snap. Additionally up near the chest on the interior are two zippered smaller pockets on either side that are great for your phone. They are accessible without unzippering the coat all the way which makes it convenient.
