Audi R8 Spyder debuts New York Auto Show
The 2017 Audi R8 Spyder Convertible debuts today at the New York Auto Show. The drop top R8 Spyder isn’t the fastest Supercar out there but a few seconds off the pace isn’t going to change my opinion lust for it. The new Audi R8 Spyder is a work of art in motion.
The new Audi R8 offers a 5.2 liter V10 under the hood with a 7-speed S-Tronic Dual-Clutch Transmission. The R8 Spyder can achieve a Zero to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds producing 398 pound-feet of torque at the wheels, with a top speed of 197mph.
The automatic convertible roof folds away in just 20 seconds and allows you to drive up to 31 miles per hour while doing so which makes daily use that much more convenient.
The R8 Spyder improved aerodynamics and has reduced the reverse airflow around the passengers by 90 percent! That means you can actually ride with the top down at cruising speeds without feeling like your in a hurricane.
No word yet if the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder will offer the more powerful V10 Plus engine that produces 610hp vs the standard 540hp. Convertibles typically have a less rigid chassis due to the lack of B Pillars and often a few seconds slower than their hardtop sisters but the 2017 R8 Spyder comes in just a shade slower than it’s hardtop counterpart just a few tenths of a second off the pace.
